Position Title: Food Secure Communities Coordinator

Position Overview:
United Way of the Flint Hills’ Healthier Lyon County Program is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as the Food Secure Communities Coordinator. This position will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to improve food security and access to nutritious meals for individuals and families in Lyon County, Kansas. The Food Secure Communities Coordinator will work collaboratively with community partners, local organizations, and stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives that address food insecurity and promote healthy eating habits.

This position involves approximately 30 hours of work per week, conducted either onsite or in the community. Some travel within the county is required, with occasional travel within the state.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategic initiatives to address food insecurity and promote access to nutritious food within the community.
2. Collaborate with local food banks, pantries, and other organizations to coordinate food distribution efforts and ensure efficient resource
allocation.
3. Facilitate community outreach and education programs to raise awareness about food insecurity issues and promote healthy eating
habits.
4. Establish partnerships with local farmers, growers, and food producers to support the availability of fresh and locally sourced food options.
5. Coordinate volunteer efforts and engage community & coalition members in food security initiatives, including food drives, meal
preparation, and distribution activities.
6. Monitor and evaluate the impact of food security programs and initiatives, collecting data and feedback to measure effectiveness and
identify areas for improvement.
7. Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to food security programs, grants, and funding sources.
8. Represent United Way of the Flint Hills’ Healthier Lyon County Program & Coalition at community meetings, events, and forums related to food security and nutrition.

Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, social work, or a related field preferred.
– Previous experience working in community development, food security, public health, or a related field.
– Understanding of food insecurity issues and the social determinants of health preferred.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
– Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement programs or initiatives.
– Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of initiative and self-motivation.
– Passion for social justice and a commitment to improving the well-being of individuals and communities.
